Positano

Villa Flavio Gioia – An Oasis with a View

Our first nights we spend in the middle of the Positano, just a couple of steps from the busy beach. This spacious little hotel made us feel like home the minute we entered.  Decorated in white and blue to give the right Mediterranean vibes and with a magic view from our cute little balcony, this quickly became one of our favorite Amalfi Coast boutique hotels. See below for some more details about this little gem!

Design & Boutique Feeling

Once a home, this pink gem gives you a true personal  boutique feeling. Inside, the design is simplistic and Mediterranean mostly in blue and white reflecting the beautiful surrounding with some traditional mosaic elements. The small yard in front of the hotel is a true oasis where you can enjoy the afternoons or why not visit the cute little design boutique, located in the hotel complex.  Hotel Flavio Gioia has wonderfully broad spaces: very cosy and romantic!

Room & Other Facilities

The rooms and bathrooms are spacious but modern, an interesting mix of antique and Mediterranean elements. Our suite, decorated in bright hues, had a little kitchenette but best of all a balcony with a magic view. The best place to spend the mornings and the afternoon, dreaming away watching the azure blue sea and the village life in the square in front of the hotel

They also have a luxurious yacht for guests.

Service

The service is truly personal and helpful, always striving to make you feel at home. Everyone was authentically friendly, well just great!

Location

The location is absolutely perfect, combining the best of Positano. The hotel is located just a few steps away from the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and also the beach. In other words, Italian picturesque and ocean blues but still you will find peace in this oasis!

As Hotel Flavio Gioia is located on one of the very narrow alleys, you can not drive all the way. If you like us come in a car there is a car park at Via Dei Mulini about 200 meters from the hotel and the hotel has a discount so do not forget to mention you are a guest. The way to the hotel is not the most luggage friendly so do not bring your heaviest bags:)!

Le Sirenuse – The Ruby on the hillside of Positano

The most famous hotel in Positano, Le Sirenuse is worth a visit even if you do not stay here. Its design has inspired many, including American Nobel laureate John Steinbeck and this red beauty has now become more of one of the most famous landmarks in Positano!

Design & Boutique Feeling

Once a family summer house, it’s been a hotel since 1951. The Sersale siblings didn’t just know about hotels, but also art and design, which they imprinted into Sirenuse. Bright and luxurious, this famous luxury accommodation on the Amalfi Coast shines like Ruby at the colorful hillside of Positano.

This Amalfi Coast boutique hotel is all about luxury and spectacular view. The design is lavish with marble floors and precious details. The balconies at this hotel offers one of the best views there is in Positano so even if you do not stay here, make a visit and get swept away!

Room & Other Facilities

The rooms are best described as romantic luxury in white and earthy tones with mosaic floors and details. If you book a room with balconies then will make sure you wake up to one of the best view there is in Positano!

There are many iconic spots from films, like the Andalusian style pool and romantic restaurant. They also have boutiques with clothing items designed by members of the family.

Such a pretty place!
Food & Drinks

One of the top luxury accommodations in Amalfi Coast, Le Sirenuse has a Michelin-starred restaurant, La Sponda. It serves Amalfi Coast and Naples cuisine made with fresh local ingredients: delicious and gorgeous. The view is amazing, and at night it’s lit up with 400 candles!

Their seasonal Champagne & Oyster Bar also has wonderful views, champagne and cocktails. You can spend a sunset at their pool bar or al fresco terrace.

Service

Pleasant, friendly and professional, the Sirenuse staff is always willing to lend a hand and here you get the five star service you expect in a hotel like this!

Location

Le Sirenuse has some of the most incredible views in town, overlooking Positano Bay. Located at a small street climbing up the mountain you are on a safe distance from the crowds, still it only takes 5 minutes to get down to the busies alleys of Positano.  Some great restaurants  with a magic view are also the neighbor of Le Sirenuse so there are some great dinner options just a step away from the hotel!

The Best Boutique Hotels in Amalfi

More touristy than its neighbor, Amalfi lights up after sunset, when the day tourists are gone.

Unlike Positano, the village of Amalfi is mostly flat, so it’s easier to walk through the village. But like all villages on the Amalfi Coast, the local life is lived on the hillsides. Amalfi has a very specific feature with its tunnels surrounding the main street and if you continue beyond them you will find a lot of gems and the local life along the steep narrow stairs taking you up along the hillside.

We found two  different, yet very cool luxury accommodations on the Amalfi Coast here that I can truly recommend!

Amalfi Luxury House – The Cool Hidden Design Gem

A true hidden gem, hard to find but worth the effort. Located in one of the narrow alleys climbing the hillside of Amalfi, we got a very good surprise opening the anonymous door. A lovely courtyard among the locals, and a steep yellow staircase. You’ll feel like a conquistador and the impression just got better and better the further up we got! If you like boutique and design hotels, this is the place to stay when in Amalfi!

Design & Boutique Feeling

A recently refurbished 18th century home, Amalfi Luxury House is a sweet B&B with six rooms. But do not get afraid of the B&B status. This is a gem for boutique and design hotel lovers. Once you have climbed all the stairs and entered the anonymous little door you are in the cutest little yard among the locals.

The design is truly modern and cool mixed with typical Amalfi Coast elements and the entire place breathes authenticity and personality! Loved the mix of industrial elements with the warm red fabrics and the glass stairs up to the little roof top are a bit scary but super cool!

I loved their little yard when you enter and the neighboring lady had made hers a truly  instagramable one. Of course, the rooftop, adds to the perfection of this place. The best place for breakfast and afternoon chilling and even though the view is not so much about the azure blue sea, it is magic. Surrounded by the huge mountains and above the rooftops of Amalfi town.

Room & Other Facilities

Furbished with beautiful antiques, our suite still had a distinctly modern touch. The rooms are big with cool design in an earthy palette mixed with warm tones from the textiles.  The bed was very comfy and the bathroom truly modern. There was a lovely balcony overlooking the houses and yards of Amalfi. We even go t a glimpse of the sea!

Food & Drinks

The menu was limited to breakfast options and the food was ok but nothing special. However, the rooftop made every breakfast memorable.

Service

As one should expect from one of the top Amalfi Coast boutique hotels, the service was otherworldly. The staff was pleasant, professional and helpful!

Coming to Amalfi in car is not the easiest experience as you have to drive though the entire city to get to the car park and you basically have to drive on the pedestrian street that is very narrow. Once in the car park, the staff met us and helped us with the bags and to find the hotel. Very much appreciated and recommended as it is not easy to find the hotel without some guidance and the stairs are quite steep for you to carry your luggage!

Location

Maybe not the most convenient location, up on a hill, close to the Duomo and surrounded by houses but still this is what makes the experience of staying at the Amalfi Luxury House extraordinary. The local experience is everything and once you learnt the way it only takes you 2 minutes to be down at the main street and square!

Santa Caterina – The Luxury Hideaway

We didn’t stay at Santa Caterina, but its beach club made it one of our favorite Amalfi Coast luxury accommodations. Mostly visited by the elderly crowd, this traditional/romantic 5-star hotel is worth a visit and probably a stay!

Santa Caterina – The Luxury Hideaway
Taking a breather to enjoy the sights!

This hotel is truly one of a kind. It made us stop on the way to Amalfi. A white traditional diamond, literally hanging over the cliff! The design here is very exquisite and traditional with romantic Amalfi Coast vibes. We did not see the rooms but the general areas are amazing and worth to explore both from a design and view point of view.

The beautiful view at the beach club

External people are allowed to the beach club for a  €40 entry and if you want to get away from the daily crowds in Amalfi this is the prefect place to spend a day. Taking the elevator 10 or so levels down is almost a scary feeling, at least if you are afraid of heights but once there this little cliff beach club is breathtaking. Comfy sun beds, a pool and a small beach club restaurants just by the blue water and with the steep cliffs as your background. A magic hideaway for a day! Call them in advance and you will also get a free transfer from Amalfi and you can avoid the trouble of getting your car out!
