A three-hour ride away from metropolitan Bangkok stands Hua Hin, a beautiful resort town in Thailand’s Malay peninsula. Once a tranquil fishing village, this place became a vacation spot for Thai royalty in the early 20th century, and has since grown to become a favorite tropical hangout for locals as well as Europeans fleeing from the cold northern winters. Whether you’re looking for the best hotels in Hua Hin or specifically boutique hotels in Hua Hin, you have some great options!

While Hua Hin is a very touristic town, the crowds haven’t made it lose its magic: there’s definitely a lot to discover here. Among the bigger resorts there are some true gems to be found for those that like small luxury hotels. I have stayed in two boutique hotels in Hua Hin and truly loved both.

Aleenta Hua Hin

Located about 40 minutes away from the town, the Aleenta Hua Hin quickly took my heart. With only 25 villas tucked in between the road and the beach, this gem provided exactly what we needed: the ability to recharge our batteries for the New Year!

This place is part of a small luxury hotesl and you can easy undestrand why. It’s built with zen in mind, which makes it the perfect spot to decompress.

Design & Boutique Feeling

As far as boutique hotels in Hua Hin goes, this place delivers. Styled following the traditional design of Asian bungalows, the entire resort is built to make each guest feel like they’re the only one staying there.

Every detail is constructed with two adjectives in mind: small and cosy. This seems to have been done in order to maintain the personal touch, and it worked!

The mix of peaceful design and the friendly staff will make you feel at home!

Room & Other Facilities

The management let us try out 3 different types of bungalows during our stay. They were all comfortable, spacious and had lovely details like yoga mats and outdoor showers.

The Palm Pool Residence, our first bungalow, has a private garden facing the beach and a jacuzzi on the terrace. The “walls” facing the beach are actually windows, and the effect of opening up the curtains each morning and face the ocean was intoxicating. Our bungalow was no. 104, but no. 102 or 103 provide more hours of sunlight.

Bungalow 105 is a larger version of the Palm, with a big hallway and a big desk! This bungalow is more private, as you cannot see your neighbors at all, perfect for travelers on a hermit pursuit.

The Pool Residence, A.K.A., room 108, took our hearts. Here, you stay on the edge of the beach for a completely secluded experience. There’s also a jacuzzi and a hammock. While this one is a little smaller than the other two, it makes up for it with its beautiful round architecture and proximity to the beach: the morning view was straight out of a postcard!

Good morning sunshine

Our favorite spot in this small luxury hotel was the infinity pool, with its unique view – but the restaurant, small spa  were also fantastic. For the gym lovers there is also a tiny little gym but the beach is so much more inspiring for some work out!

Food & Drinks

The restaurant’s menu is varied enough that you can eat here for a week and not get bored – and, of course, it’s also delicious! Cautious eaters can choose how spicy they want their meals, a great feature in a Thai restaurant.

In true southeastern Asian fashion, they also offer a lot of fresh juices and smoothies, and the mango one was something of a revelation – it was definitely a must-have every morning!

Breakfast time

The Aleenta breakfast buffet is a highlight, with great presentation and numerous egg preparations to choose from. Lastly, dinner for two at the beach was almost impossibly romantic!

Service

The staff was very professional, pleasant and accommodating.

The massages at the spa were amazing, and your relaxed experience can also include in-house yoga classes, local excursions and even transfers to the city in luxury vans with massage chairs.

Location

The Aleenta is away from the city, in the nearby village of Pranburi. This makes it perfect for a secluded vacation, but there’s not much to do outside the hotel other than a grocery store and a few bars and restaurants.

The tides make the beach vanish during the morning, only to “return” at about 3 pm – just in time for some magical walks on the beach!

Hello beach…

Putahracsa Hua Hin

The Putahracsa is one of the best hotels in Hua Hin, and a great place for travelers with an eye for modern design. The spaces of each corner of the hotel are broad and comfortable, and most are within a palette of earthy tones (the browns really stand out!). Their own bakery is a little on the modern European side, with an equally beautiful mix of black and white.

The hotel is divided into two sides by a major road: the beachfront side and across the street.

Design & Boutique Feeling

Simple design mixing southeast Asian sensibilities with a more modern approach, giving the whole place an exclusive and luxurious vibe. The hotel’s design is very contemporary and hip, from the rooms to the beach club, the restaurants and every little detail throughout the hotel.

The Putahracsa screams high-end vacation!

Room & Other Facilities

We stayed across the street from the beach, in a small but pleasant room with very cosy beds and a cute balcony overlooking the pool. However, since we were close to the road, it was a little noisy at night – so it’s best to stay at the beach side!

The rest of the facilities are very stylish, and we were particularly big on the sunbeams and, of course, the infinity pool!

Food & Drinks

If you’re in town, go to the Putahracsa for dinner, even if you’re not staying at the hotel: the food here is amazing!

The hotel has two eateries, a beach bar and a bakery, but our favorite altogether was the oceanside restaurant. Here, you can enjoy some rosé from Côte de Provence, for a perfect evening out gazing at the stars and moonlight with a refreshing glass of wine.

Location

Ironically enough, one of the things that makes this one of the best hotels in Hua Hin is the fact that it’s located on the outskirts of the city, making it all the more peaceful.

The only downside to the Putahracsa’s location is the fact that the entire hotel is divided into two by a road. While the staff is very accommodating in this regard (they’ve even hired someone to help guests cross the street safely), it’s not exactly ideal.
