For a long time, the Barcelona foodie experience was mostly focused on local flavours, particularly tapas and cava. But now, the city has turned into one of the primary hipster spots in the world, and finding the best brunch in Barcelona has turned into a challenge. There are so many lovely places to spend a morning getting energised with the most delicious food. My original list of the most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona included almost 30 spots. During my short visit last December, I couldn’t possibly try every single place among the best brunch in Barcelona spots!

What surprised me the most about the options for the best brunch in Barcelona was the number of healthy choices. Vegetarian and vegan breakfast spots are all the rage in this Mediterranean dream town. The most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona have such a varied menu now: the city has really turned into a hot spot for breakfast lovers like myself!

Best Brunch in Barcelona at Eixample
Eixample, the relatively newer part of town, dating back to the 19th century, has a real big city vibe. A neighbourhood characterised by its grid pattern streets, this is where most major tourist attractions are located. When in Barcelona for the first time, you can’t miss classic places like the Sagrada Familia Basilica, meeting point Plaça Catalunya and shopping street Passeig de Gràcia.

While you take a break from these very touristic places, this is one of the most up-and-coming areas for cool, hip and cosy eateries. Start your sightseeing early by having the best brunch in Barcelona!
Heading to Barna? Here are my fave accommodations: my list of boutique hotels, and reviews of the Pulitzer and the Wittmore!
1. Eat My Trip – Experimental Food in a Happy & Joyful Setting
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 5
- Atmosphere: 5
- Design: 4
- Service: 5
Eat My Trip is a dream come true for its founder – and you can tell. A small and new café, its owner Genia daydreamed of creating an unforgettable morning experience, serving the best brunch in Barcelona. Now, each little piece is made with passion, love and sheer joy, and you can taste that with every bite. Their food options are very varied, based on Genia’s trips around the world, so you’ll find flavours from many different cultures. I loved their smoothies, avo toasts and pancakes, but you can also find Russian Vareniki (dumplings filled with berries), Thai eggs and more. Also, their homemade Chai latte is to die for, a great option for the best brunch in Barcelona!
You can find lots of vegan and healthy options, and everything I tried was delicious and beautifully presented. Loved the personal treatment here, despite it being a popular place with a queue. Prepare for short waiting time. Now, the place is very cute and one of the most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona, but you’ll have to get here early to take some snaps.
Perfect spot for a sturdy lunch when visiting the Sagrada Familia, as it’s a 15-minute walk away!
2. Bohl – A Healthy & Scandinavian Breakfast
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 5
- Atmosphere: 4
- Design: 5
- Service: 5
Bohl is a pretty unique place among Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona: it feels like a piece of Scandinavia in the Mediterranean. With an urban and industrial look, its earthy palette and mix of concrete and wood create a warm and one-of-a-kind atmosphere. Simple and to the point, it felt a bit like home!

Healthy food is the connecting thread in the menu, and there as a lot of variety, including many smoothies and types of latte. All 4 of their porridge options went fantastic, but I went for the warm cocoa one. It included cacao powder and nibs, date paste and hazelnuts – so delicious. Incredible chai and avocado toast, too. Easily among the top choices for the best brunch in Barcelona.

If I lived in Barna, this would be my fave spot, between the great food and being one of the most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona. Its location is also great, on a side street yet a 10-minute walk from Plaça Catalunya. It’s also very near the Barcelona Arc de Triomf.
3. Flax & Kale Passage – Gluten-Free Asian Fusion in Creative Paradise
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 5
- Atmosphere: 5
- Design: 5
- Service: 4
Flax & Kale is marketed as the first flexitarian restaurant in the city, and stands as one of the best brunch in Barcelona spots. The concept stems from the mind of Teresa Carles, a renowned Catalan chef who’s specialised in vegetarian cooking for 35 years. This new project so far has 4 locations in town, and the Passage one is my absolute favourite. It’s also one of their two flagship spots!

Creative and healthy food sit at the center of this fun eatery. Options in this particular location are focused on all gluten-free Asian fusion, plus their own kombucha lab – and I wholly recommend their passion fruit tea. There’s a really unique culinary experience at hand here, from exotic flavours to incredible plating. To me, this is what the future of healthy food looks like: new ways to enjoy food while respecting the environment and using local, organic ingredients. Make sure to try their eggs Benedict and delicious savoury waffles!
Love the design here, a mix of industrial and neon, with details like brick walls, concrete, wood and plants. Easily one of the most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona, the décor adds to the atmosphere. There’s a small passage in the middle creating two different areas, so you can choose the experience.
While the service was good, this is a pretty big place and as such lacked the personal touch a bit.

4. Flax & Kale Tallers
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 5
- Atmosphere: 4
- Design: 4
- Service: 4
The other Flax & Kale flagship location, Tallers is a much bigger option among the best breakfast in Barcelona places. The first of its kind, the design here is much more contemporary, with cooler elements – although it’s not quite as cosy. Offering some of the best brunch in Barcelona options, the menu here is flexitarian: 80% vegan/plant-based and 20% oily fish to cover for Omega 3 and other nutrients.

The offerings are delicious, and I particularly loved the shiitake fajitas and black bead tuna burgers. They also have the same options of kombucha, cold-pressed juices and smoothies as their other location. The plates and the restaurant’s design put this among the most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona. Just keep in mind it gets crowded, so best to come early for snaps. Lovely atmosphere for breakfast or brunch!
Instagrammable Cafés in Barcelona at Barri Gothic & El Born
The Barri Gothic is the oldest part of Barna, dating back to the Middle Ages. As it often happens with these very old European cities, the Barcelona centre is a maze of narrow streets. This is a perfect place to get lost in boutiques, bars and try some of the most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona. It’s also another key spot for tourist attractions, with places like the Picasso Museum, the Cathedral, and breathtaking Santa Maria del Mar Church. It’s no surprise that some of the coolest options for the best breakfast in Barcelona are here.

Nearby you’ll find El Born, my favourite area in town. A little less touristic than the Gothic Quarter, it’s still worth noting that Barna always has a lot of outside visitors. Still, go a little beyond the crowds and you might find the best brunch in Barcelona here!
5. Cremat 11 – An Intimate French Insta Gem
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 4
- Atmosphere: 4
- Design: 4
- Service: 5
Just around the corner from the Picasso Museum stands Cremat 11, offering one of the best brunch in Barcelona options. On a square that’s a little less crowded than the museum dedicated to the master, it’s a perfect little spot. When you enter, there’s quite the Parisian touch. Brick walls and neon lights come together with pink plush chairs for a touch of luxury. A very intimate and personal place with incredible service. Very cute, pink and one of the most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona.

The pancakes here are spectacular, make sure to try them for a taste of the best brunch in Barcelona. Just keep in mind that the plates are pretty big, so perfect to share. Come early as it gets crowded – and prepare for one of the most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona!

6. Lulu – A Place to Call Home
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 4
- Atmosphere: 4
- Design: 4
- Service: 5
Small, hip and full of locals, Lulu is the type of café where you feel at home the minute you enter. Very homey and relaxed atmosphere, it’s a very welcome place besides being one of the most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona. The design is industrial and chic, and the food is so beautifully presented that it’s well worth its own pics!
The menu is delicious and healthy, with a strong focus on serving locally sourced products for the best brunch in Barcelona. For later outings, they also have organic wine!

7. Enkel – A Chic Respite at the Gothic Quarter
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 4
- Atmosphere: 4
- Design: 4
- Service: 4
Right in the gist of one of the most touristic parts of town stands Enkel, a fresh and hip oasis. Owned by architects, you can see their hand in the café’s sleek and modern design. In terms of menu, it’s fun and eclectic, offering both vegetarian and meaty options. What makes Enkel stand out about the options of the best brunch in Barcelona is its theme: brunch, tapas and craft beer. The café has hopped on the international wave of craft beers to create a truly unique proposal in the Barna morning scene.
Loved to see lots of fun and cool options like Shakshuka, and their pancakes were also exceptional, among the best brunch in Barcelona options. They also serve dinner and, while I didn’t personally try it, a quick glance showed me that the evening menu mixes up Mediterranean with some Latin American flavour.
A very chic hangout, easily among the most Instagrammable cafés in Barcelona!
