Trendy Restaurants in Sydney in The Rocks

At the shadow of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge stands The Rocks, one of the liveliest neighbourhoods in town. One of the most historic districts in the city centre, it’s now an up-and-coming area full of trendy restaurants Sydney.

There’s always a lot going on in The Rocks, with its old-timey charm. In the hotter months, you’ll find many options for outdoor sitting, and there’s also a lovely street market with delicious food and lovely local design on weekends.

Pony Dining The Rocks is one of the ultimate hipster restaurants Sydney, particularly within the neighbourhood. The design with lots of red bricks is a little Bostonian, though the air is completely modern. Loved the outdoor terrace with a long and slick table in dark wood, something like a fancy picnic.

Feeling like a picnic indoors, in a good way

A fun culinary experience, it’s purely Australian dining with a little creative twist, specializing in open fire cooking. This is where I tried the kangaroo tartare and I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious taste.

Cool Places to Eat in Sydney at Surry Hills

The most famous neighbourhood to find cool places to eat in Sydney! It’s one of the most multicultural areas in town, with a particular connection to the Portuguese expat population. Despite its reputation as a hangout for hipster eateries, it’s one of the cosiest areas in town – among my favourites!

  5. Service: 5

For a while, Chin Chin has been one of the most famous restaurants in Melbourne – and its Sydney version isn’t far behind! King among cool places to eat in Sydney, it’s located on the iconic and industrial-style Griffiths Tea Building at Surry Hills. The design is one of my faves in town, high on bricks and with charming details in pink. The vibe is also spectacular, a truly vibrant place. Be sure to book in advance, as it’s very popular and also hosts a lot of events.

The food is absolutely delicious, serving flavours from South East Asia with an Aussie touch, and the drinks are truly innovative!

When it comes to trendy restaurants Sydney, Nomad is one of the great gems. A wine-centric place, it’s built like a cellar, only inside a repurposed warehouse. As such, there’s a great mix of industrial vibes with a carefully crafted concept, including broad windows and a large and open central kitchen. Black steel and wood add to the fun design.

Nomad – A true design gem!

The organically sourced food is fantastic, with fresh bread and cheeses made every day on-site, plus a charcuterie. Still, it’s the wine that takes center stage, with a seemingly endless wine list of Australian bottles.

I’ll always remember this place – such a lovely atmosphere!

As of the moment I’m writing this, the Nomad location I visited had a fire. True to their name, however, they’ve moved to a temporary one called Up the Road, still in Surry Hills – so be sure to support this incredible spot!

Chin Chin was fully booked the first time we tried to go, so we stumbled upon Poly trying to find some food – and it was a happy coincidence. The design was small, cosy and in true Aussie fashion, mixing bricks and wood elements. There’s an effort towards simplicity here, and you can even tell from the relaxed atmosphere and superb service.

The wine list was beyond expectations, looking at this bar I understand why

This is basically a wine bar and as expected, the wine list was fantastic, offering fantastic local options. Loved the food as well, with its menu heavy on seafood and fun combinations. A lovely spot for a relaxed night out, plus its small size makes it very intimate and personal.

Trendy Restaurants Sydney in CBD

The Central Business District, often shortened as CBD, it’s the area where the first European settlers came into contact with what’s now Sydney. Now, it’s the city’s main commercial centre – and as you can imagine, that also means tourist traps. You’ll find plenty of great and cool places to eat in Sydney here, but it’s important to do some research ahead.
