Generally speaking, Copenhagen is quite dreamy! There’s a true continental vibe here, different from the rest of Scandinavia. Danes are highly social people who love the finer things in life, and eating out is an essential part of the Danish experience. In the past few decades, the city has turned into one of the world foodie leaders, with incredible trendy restaurants in Copenhagen for all tastes. From Scandinavian eateries to international cuisine and fusion, there are hip restaurants Copenhagen for everyone!

A metropolis full of happy people, you’ll always find people at every restaurant and bar. And as you can imagine from a great Nordic city, the design everywhere is beautiful and based on Scandinavian simplicity!
What You Should Know
There are a few essential things to know about Copenhagen dining, and the first one is what to eat. When in Denmark, you’ll find delicious red sausages everywhere, and they’ll always be quite delicious. Another favourite is Smørrebrød, a traditional local sandwich made from buttered rye bread (which is dense and dark brown) topped with different goodies, such as cold cots, pieces of meat or cheese spreads. A Scandinavian must when visiting.

Another detail about trendy restaurants Copenhagen is that there’s one company that reigns supreme in the local gastronomy scene: Cofoco. They run many types of hip restaurants Copenhagen, all of which are based on a strong concept. While I haven’t tried all of them, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the ones I have, as you’ll find below. There’s another famous chain that’s supposed to have great hip restaurants Copenhagen, though I haven’t tried them, Madklubben. It comes with high recommendations from my friends, so definitely get around to that.

11 Trendy Restaurants Copenhagen, by Area
Vesterbro & Its Trendy Restaurants Copenhagen
My favourite area for hip restaurants Copenhagen! Right outside the city centre (Indre By), it’s booming with hip eateries, cafés and street places specialising in burgers and shawarma. You’ll find lots of restaurants here, plus a vibe to die for.

2. Lele – Modern Vietnamese, Done Right
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 5
- Atmosphere: 4
- Design: 4
- Service: 5
Vietnamese food is always a great choice for a great night out, and Lêlê is the best of trendy restaurants Copenhagen for it.
This is a pretty big chain with different locations around town, specifically street food takeaways. However, there’s only one restaurant, decorated in warm tones with lots of Asian inspo. The food is delicious and the cocktail bar is worth a visit even if you’re not eating here. Book your spot in advance, as it’s pretty popular!

2. Kiin Kiin Tok Tok – Authentic & Contemporary Thai
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 4
- Atmosphere: 4
- Design: 4
- Service: 4
If you love Thai Food as much as I do, you’ll fall in love with Kiin Kiin Tok Tok. What makes this one of the best hip restaurants Copenhagen is that, while you’ll find all the Thai faves, there’s always a truly contemporary twist.
Deconstructions and modern takes abound here, spiced by an intimate atmosphere and a lovely design reflecting the fun menu with delicious thai dishes. Loved their selection of wine and beer and their super friendly service!
3. Les Trois Cochons – A French & Hip Bistro
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 5
- Atmosphere: 4
- Design: 4
- Service: 4
The first Cofoco place on this list of trendy restaurants Copenhagen, Les Trois Cochons is a true French bistro. Its design, from checkered floors to green tile walls and brass details, will immediately transport you to Paris – and so will its outdoor tables.

Here, you’ll find all the French resto classics, including oysters, steak tartare, frites and the works – and in the morning, even your classic café au lait et un croissant!
While this eatery is a little more expensive than most other places on this list, it’s well worth it for its French luxury. This lovely bistro is a great spot for people gazing: just sit in the bar by the window – oh, la, là!
4. Kiin Kiin Bao Bao – Contemporary Asian Tapas
- Food: 4
- Drinks: 4
- Atmosphere: 5
- Design: 4
- Service: 5
What makes Kiin Kiin Bao Bao stand out among hip restaurants Copenhagen is definitely its enchanting atmosphere. Taking on Asian tapas with a fun and creative menu, it’s a cosy and popular place.

The design is modern and fun, and there’s a lovely backyard for the warmer days. Very friendly service!
Kodebyn’s Many Hip Restaurants Copenhagen
Much like New York’s Meatpacking District, Copenhagen has its own renewed area that once hosted the meat industry: Kodebyn. While it looks rough at first glance, it hosts some of the top trendy restaurants Copenhagen. An eclectic area with lots of hip spots, this is where the cool people hang out. This is the epicenter of great food and vibes, in a fun environment mixing fancy spots, businesses of all sorts and a whole lot of butchers.

5. Kodebyns Fiskebar – Scandinavian Seafood for the Ages
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 5
- Atmosphere: 5
- Design: 4
- Service: 5
Kodebyns Fiskebar serves easily some of the best food in this guide of trendy restaurants Copenhagen and is the place for sea food lovers! Specialising in incredible Scandinavian seafood, presentation is a big part of this restaurant’s experience. Plus, you can match it with their great wine list.

This is a very relaxed place with a great atmosphere, not one bit stiff or uptight. Just the place for a relaxing evening with top noch food! Kodebyn’s industrial and rough vibe adds the little extra to this place to make it one of my favorite spots in Copenhagen.

6. Paté Paté – The Oldest Kodebyn Eatery
- Food: 4
- Drinks: 4
- Atmosphere: 5
- Design: 4
- Service: 4
Paté Paté is the place where it all started in the Meatpacking District. A grungy place, they self-describe with the words passion, love and rock ‘n roll – and it certainly fits. The décor isn’t quite as smooth as some of the other hip restaurants Copenhagen, but no less charming and more cool. Rustic and raw with a few industrial details with steel, it’s simple enough to remind you of a stylish and cosy bar.

The best part of Paté Paté is its unique vibe, full of fun people having a bite or just drinking with friends. Service is very good and chill, as you’d expect. The food is made to share, mixing international flavours with nouveau Danish cuisine.
7. Mother – A Swingin’ Italian
- Food: 4
- Drinks: 4
- Atmosphere: 5
- Design: 3
- Service: 4
Mother is the place to go when you’re craving a tasty Italian meal. Here you’ll find delicious Italian flavours, including a lovely wine list to accompany your meal.

You can feel this restaurant’s soul the minute you come in, with its broad history and strong Italian roots. The atmosphere here is very particular, and they host a lot of very popular events. It’s also one of the most beloved trendy restaurants Copenhagen for a fun brunch. You can read more about my favourite breakfast and brunch places in the city HERE!
Indre By’s Trendy Restaurants Copenhagen
Indre By, the city centre of the Danish capital, is a little more crowded than other areas in this restaurant guide – yet still definitely worth it. Between the cute buildings and super crowded shops and grand stores, you can find lots of great places. Walk towards Norrebro and you’ll find amazing spots.
Indre Byn is full of hip and luxury design hotels. Find all my favorite ones in my BOUTIQUE HOTEL POST or check out the luxury gem HERMAN K or the trendy design oasis SP34.

8. Llama – Colourful, Vibrant, Latin
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 4
- Atmosphere: 5
- Design: 5
- Service: 4
One of my favourite hip restaurants Copenhagen, Llama took me straight back to South America. The design did the trick as soon as I entered, thanks to the floor’s colourful and patterned tiles. Then, the atmosphere: this place is loud, vibrant, passionate, with laughter everywhere. But in the end, it was the food that did the trick, with a menu full of Latin American flavours, particularly Mexico and Peru. I can’t recommend the tacos and ceviche enough – and, of course, the Pisco Sour!

Llama is located in a basement, but you’ll be transported to lands of warmth and music as soon as you enter. The big bar in the middle was a big plus, and you can also sit there and eat with friends for a more communal experience.
This is another Cofoco restaurant, showcasing what I love about this brand. While they make an effort in creating an atmosphere that matches the flavours of each restaurant, while adding their uniquely modern and trendy Danish touch.
9. Vækst – A Greenhouse Honouring Nordic Veggies
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 4
- Atmosphere: 4
- Design: 5
- Service: 5
Yet another Cofoco restaurant, Vækst is a modern take on Nordic food, particularly vegetables. The menu of this near-perfect gem among trendy restaurants Copenhagen is based on traditional Nordic vegetables, which are the stars of each dish – although they do serve meat and vegetables.

I fully recommend their tasting menu of 3 dishes, which also include small middle dishes. This is organic fine dining at its best, and I fully enjoyed my meal – particularly the scallops. They also have a wine package for you to combine accordingly!

This is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places in town, designed to resemble a greenhouse, with lots of open spaces and plants everywhere. You almost breathe better.
10. Torvehallerne – The Unique Street Food Market
Torvehallerne is full of trendy restaurants Copenhagen, even if it’s not exactly one. The Danish capital’s popular food market, where you’ll find everything from fresh fruits and meats to cute hole-in-the-wall eateries. This is a popular place for Danes, away from the tourist crowds, where you can really feel the local pulse. Do your shopping for the weekend and grab a bite at lunchtime, tasting the freshest flavours and feeling like a local!

Grammelhorn – Home of the Unique Customs House
Right off busy Nyhavn you’ll find Grammelhorn, a unique little area with a lovely place: The Standard. A complex housing three marvelous hip restaurants Copenhagen, this was once the city’s customs headquarters. Now, it’s the perfect location to spend sunny days!

11. Almanak – A Modern Danish Bistro with the Best Smørrebrød
- Food: 5
- Drinks: 4
- Atmosphere: 4
- Design: 5
- Service: 5
A bistro with a very modern and Scandinavian take, Almanak is my favorite among hip restaurants Copenhagen at The Standard. Mixing French bistro style with Danish sensibilities, it’s a fantastic luxury option at the old customs house. If you’re waiting for the perfect place to try open-faced sandwich Smørrebrød, this is it!

Almanak is ideal for a luxury lunch, helped by their lovely wine selection, including great cava. For dinner, they serve delicious Danish flavours based on seafood and meat.
