Where to Stay in Amsterdam: 7 Areas & 11 Wonderful Luxury Boutique Hotels Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a relatively small city which makes it easy to explore by foot or by bike. Each area has its own charm so it is easy to find your favorite here!

The  Lovely Luxury Boutique Hotels Amsterdam of Canal Belt & Jordaan

If you ask me about the ultimate area where to stay in Amsterdam, this will always be my top choice. Some of the best luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam are here, surrounded by the gorgeous canals. In Jordaan, trendy eateries and cafés abound – many of them filled with locals!

1. Canal House – A Contemporary Take on Traditional Dutch Architecture

Design & Boutique Feeling: 5

Location: 5

As its name suggests, Canal House was originally just that. Surrounded by other traditional homes by the canals, it’s a beauty in Dutch design, and one of my personal favorite luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam. The hotel décor has been kept just as it was, adding contemporary elements for a truly luxurious experience. Wooden floors, beams in the ceiling, and a dark palette with lots of purple are some of my favorite design elements here. A gem among options where to stay in Amsterdam!

2. The Dylan Hotel – Luxury Hidden Behind a Backyard

Design & Boutique Feeling: 5

Service: 5

Location: 5

Located on Negen Straatjes (9 Little Streets), one of the coolest things about The Dylan Hotel is that it’s surrounded by the canals. This gem among luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam is hidden behind a yard, a cute intro for a totally deluxe place. Mixing opulent elements like marble with more rustic ones like an open fireplace, there’s a lot of character here. Loved the contrasts, like the contemporary restaurant with a peaceful and private backyard. The loft room was a delight: large and mixing history and trendy design. Also, the service was very friendly with a lovely personal touch!

The luxurious feeling is sticking around, here’s the hotel bar.

The Pulitzer might be a larger chain, but this venue has the unique touch of one of the best luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam, even if it lacks more personal service. The hotel is located within 21 restored homes from the 17th and 18th century, but the design inside is quite edgy and eclectic. The design is full of bold hues and art, with colorful plush couches and stylishly curvy furniture in the reception and rooms. Loved the contemporary restaurant, and traditionally luxurious room, some of which have an industrial touch. My favorite areas were the two big gardens, perfect to escape the hectic city life – particularly the one with the swings!

The Thriving Life of Amsterdam’s Center

The oldest part is a great option of where to stay in Amsterdam, for those who wants to live close to the major tourist attractions, including the Red Light district and the canal belt.

4. The Ink Hotel – A Place for Stories Not Yet Written

Design & Boutique Feeling: 4

Service: 4

Location: 4

Part of the MGallery concept by Sofitel, The Ink Hotel isn’t technically among luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam, as it’s a big chain – but I’ve had nothing but great experiences with MGallery. This building was once a newspaper factory, and it has retained its love for creativity and the written word. Letters abound here, with throwbacks to the building’s past in the bar, restaurant, and even the inner courtyard. The rooms are large and luxurious, with an innovative layout including a marble bathtub in the room and storytelling wallpapers. If you like design but prefer big chains, this is a great choice, though the service lacks a bit of a personal touch.

De Pijp – The Up-and-Coming Hangout for Locals

Besides being the home to multiple luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam, De Pijp is one of the hippest neighborhoods in town, a short bike away from the historic center. A great spot to mingle with locals and see their real everyday social lives, you’ll find plenty of amazing eateries and cafés here. Plus, the flea market is quite iconic!

5. Sir Albert Hotel – A Trendy Meeting Point

Design & Boutique Feeling: 5

Location: 4

Described as “a rendezvous for the stylish,” Sir Albert Hotel deserves this advertisement. One of the newest spots on this list, it’s a creativity hotspot among options where to stay in Amsterdam. Stylish and home-like, the décor mixes simple elements with funky furniture, like cow chairs and luxury bathrooms. The hotel’s Asian restaurant, Izakaya, was gorgeous and always full of hip Amsterdammers.

Vondelpark – Amsterdam’s Central Park

Another great option when locating where to stay in Amsterdam is the Vondelpark surrounding area. A little like New York ’s Central Park, it’s a great oasis from the bustling city life – and it’s always full of people hanging out at its lakes and restaurants!

6. Conscious Hotel The Tire Station – An Eco Marvel

wondering where to stay in amsterdam? the tire station hotel in amsterdam is one of my favorites
I can highly recommend The Tire Station, you’ll love it!

The Netherlands is at the forefront of sustainable living, with eco options for everyone – and travelers can partake in luxury eco lodgings with Conscious Hotels. A set of four sustainable luxury boutique hotels in Amsterdam. Tire Station is my very favorite. The small chain is committed to maintaining high design standards while reducing the negative ecological effect. Once a tire station, this is now a darling hotel experience for the eco-conscious. The rooms are hip & simplistic but lacking a bit the cosiness. This is however set off by the lovely lobby and facilities like the Sticky Finger café and Moer restaurant!

7. Conscious Hotel Vondelpark – Nature-Inspired Sustainability

Design & Boutique Feeling: 4

Location: 4

In honor of the next door green area, the Conscious Hotel Vondelpark is heavily inspired by nature. One of the top luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam, it has a small and cozy reception serving organic breakfast. A little less hip than its sister hotel down the street, it caters to a slightly more mature audience that may be a bit pickier. The rooms are a little too simple for me, as I’ve come to expect a more luxurious touch. Still this place is a great choice for the conscious travellers that what a boutique experience!

FoodHallen – Paradise for Foodies & Luxury Boutique Hotels Amsterdam

Whoever travels to get the gist of flavors wherever they go must head to FoodHallen when in Amsterdam. Once a railway station, this area has been fully renovated into a street food hall for lovers of good food. Head here for delicious flavors, people watching and, of course, luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam!

8. Hotel De Hallen – An Out-of-Time Tram Lodging

Welcome to Hotel De Hallen – a cool and urban vibe at this hotel

An urban chic and industrial space right next to FoodHallen, Hotel De Hallen is right in the midst of everything. Shops, restaurants, and bars surround the place, as you see the hectic city life pass you by, so you get a real feel of the town. The building used to be a tram depot, only to become one of the most creative luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam.

The lobby is quite the experience, with its mix of vintage furniture and contemporary pieces. The tram look remains on all the rooms on the upper floor, for a wholly amazing feel. A very cool place that will transport you into a different time that’s not quite the past – but also not quite the present. Amazing service, too!

9. Hotel Not Hotel – Wonderful & Fun Kitsch among Luxury Boutique Hotels Amsterdam

Hotel Not Hotel – Could this be your next visit?

Hotel Not Hotel promises to be exceptional, and it never misses the mark as one of the best luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam. A playful place in bright colors, mixing industrial and contemporary design with whimsical details, like a van in the library. There’s a circus-like quality here, like you’re inside a fairytale.

hotel not hotel interior is so unique
Yes, I thought I was dreaming too. How cool.

The different areas of the hotel were created by artists, and you can see that in the wild display of imagination. A tram in the middle of the lobby, a secret passageway behind a bookshelf like it’s a Scooby Doo episode – there are little details like that everywhere here. There’s even a crisis-free zone! The location, in west Amsterdam, is a little quieter than most areas, but it’s also quite tourist-free.

Museum Square – The Spot for Art Lovers

Those who come to Amsterdam to visit places like the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum might find the best luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam here. An area thriving with the work of past masters!

10. Conscious Hotel Museum Square – The Artsier Sister

Design & Boutique Feeling: 4

Service: 5

Location: 4

With the same sustainable focus as the rest of the Conscious Hotels, the Museum Square venue strives to be artistic.

The first hotel of this growing eco-chain, it’s an homage to the culture around it. What makes this one of the coolest luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam is its commitment to art: the interior design was based on Willem de Kooning’s abstract expressionist paintings. It’s also been recently renovated.

Want to make the Conscious Hotel Museum Square your hub where to stay in Amsterdam? Book it HERE!

Westerpark – A Culture Hub

The second largest park in the city, Westerpark also hosts a variety of music festivals and cultural happenings, particularly in the summer. A great option where to stay in Amsterdam for those looking to feel the local music.

11. Conscious Hotel Westerpark – The Most Design-Focused Venue

Design & Boutique Feeling: 5

Service: 5

Location: 4

The newest addition to the Conscious Hotel family is where I think they’ve taken the design to the next level. The most sustainable of the bunch, fully powered by wind energy, it’s also as stylish as it gets. The rooms are very trendy, with broad spaces and lots of white, and so is the rest of the hotel. I totally understand how it reached the Time list of the World’s Greatest Places. Here, you can mix long morning walks and then spice things up at night at a festival next door. While all the Conscious venues are among the top luxury boutique hotels Amsterdam, this is the coolest one!
