St Moritz Hotel – One of the Best Hotels in Queenstown
Overall Experience & Rating
St Moritz Hotel was an all-around astounding experience. The hotel is part of a Sofitel brand called MGallery, dedicated to “lovers of life, literature, and culture.” Lately, I’ve stayed at some of these brand’s lodgings and I’m always in awe of the offering. Each of these MGallery hotels tells a story, with a unique design and a perfect location to go with it. St Moritz was no exception! An alpine design oasis with the best view you can get in Queenstown. Here you eat, sleep and live with a gorgeous view over the mountains and Lake Wakatipu. A truly memorable moment and experience!

Design & Boutique Feeling
Just by coming through the doors, you know this is one of the best Queenstown hotels. Honoring its proximity to the Southern Alps, the design is a true homage to the Alps, with all the coziness that entails. Upon entrance, we felt welcome with the lobby’s brick wall, open fireplace, wooden ceiling beams, and cow-patterned details.

There’s real thought put behind the entire setup, as is always the case with MGallery hotels. Every area was decorated harmoniously, in earthy warm colors. Everything was quite beautiful, though still focused on coziness. There are so many comfy chairs to sit back with a book, and areas to relax with great conversation. Or you can just admire the view while surrounded to this hipster Alpine paradise.
No wonder this is one of the best hotels in Queenstown. For a unique and romantic experience in the area, check out this Queenstown Skyline Gondola and Stargazing Tour!
Room & Other Facilities
If there’s one thing that sets the best hotels in Queenstown apart it is their rooms, and we were not disappointed! Our suite was big and included a living room, kitchenette, big windows and a small balcony facing the lake. I can definitely recommend the “One bedroom alpine suite lake view and balcony”!

The décor in the room was lovely and kind of different from the rest of the hotel, a more modern approach. In keeping with the earthy palette, the furniture was more hipster. The turquoise armchair was perfect to lounge with a book or just dream away while gazing outside. This vibe of Queenstown hotels by the lake is unmatched!

The bedroom was decorated in darker colors for an even cozier feel, with a super comfortable bed. Perfect place for some luxury treat before bedtime!

The modern B&W bathroom was another highlight, with a shower and a bathtub. It was hard for us to leave our room at one of the best hotels in Queenstown!

Outside Our Cosy Room…
As for the other facilities, the bar/restaurant was also lovely, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the mountains. Having breakfast and dinner here, it was almost as though we were also eating the view! Sunsets are supposed to be spectacular here, but we were unlucky and it was rather cloudy. Still, it’s a good excuse to return to this gem of Queenstown hotels!
They also have two hot pools with a view, perfect to relax after an adventurous day.

Food & Drinks
New Zealand is a country of great flavors, so we obviously had high expectations of Queenstown hotels. St Moritz met them, offering delicious food! I particularly loved the salmon, lasagna, crème brûlée, and the wine. Even if you don’t stay at this, one of the best hotels in Queenstown, make sure to pay it a visit. Get a great meal or have a sunset drink with a view.

Service
Although this is technically a big chain hotel, the service was spectacular and had a truly personal touch. Friendly, hospitable and genuine. A key factor making it one of the best Queenstown hotels!

Location
The location is one of the things that makes this one of the best hotels in Queenstown! It’s just off the path of the city, facing Lake Wakatipu and the Southern Alps but still just 5 or 10-minute walk from the crowds and happenings!
